~  Once again we look forward to doing what we love the most "TRAIL RIDING".  It's a bit hard to get away from all the work & events on the Ranch but we try to go on as many trail rides as we can.  We ride almost everyday here around the Ranch and area, but its always a treat to go some place else and ride with new folks !  There are a number of Trail Rides that are not to far from us such as Melville, Kamsack, Esterhazy, Spy Hill, and The Duck Mountain Area.  All these rides are approx. within 2 hours of our Ranch and well worth the drive to ride & chat with some awesome folks!

 ~  Spring time means "Maple Syrup" here on Prairie Thunder Ranch !  Yes we make our own "Pure Maple Syrup".  Our Ranch has beautiful maple trees growing through out the yard and last year we planted 2000 more !  We tap the older mature Maple Trees and once we have collected approx. 40 gallons of SAP we then have a day of boiling it in our homemade wood burning evaporator !  It takes about 10 hours of boiling & evaporating 40 gallons of SAP to end up with about 10 cups of "PURE MAPLE SYRUP".  Oh but it tastes so so Good!

 ~  Foaling starts in April here at Prairie Thunder Ranch. . . and its always exciting to see the birth of many new Purebred Gypsy babies. . . we are expecting some awesome foals again this year. . . and we try to post the great news on our website as soon as we can. . . so keep your eye on our For Sale Page !

 ~  We also try to take our Gypsy Vanner horses to some Fairs, Parades & Horse Shows in order to PROMOTE the Gypsy Vanner horse Breed here in Saskatchewan. . .  So if anyone has or knows of an Event that this amazing breed would be welcome at please let us know and we will see if it fits into our schedule!

 ~  Prairie Thunder Ranch is Canada's first and only "Gypsy Horse Rescue" ... There is no doubt, that as our economy continues to give us grief, horses of all breeds will be found in need and possibly starving. Many breeds have their own rescues, but as far as I know, to date there is no rescue for Gypsy Horses/Vanners/Cobs, in the US. and Canada. As the numbers of Gypsy Horses increase in the US & Canada., sooner or later we will no doubt, come across some in need of rescue. We have offered to take in any Gypsy Horse needing good food, a warm bed and veterinary care etc. Please know, that we will NOT purchase horses. We will purely take in a needy Gypsy Horse which the owner can no longer keep or a horse which has been relinquished to animal control or an all breed rescue. We will feed and house it, assess it's temperament and possibly place it in a NON-BREEDING, forever home. It will be our decision if we will ask a fee or request a donation from those who adopt, to help with medical expenses/gelding etc. Rehabilitation of rescued horses, can become very expensive to those who rescue. If you know of a Gypsy Horse in need, please contact us immediately. If you should discover a horse in need, please do encourage/beg/demand the owner, not to place the animal in a public auction, where horses most often, end up being sold to a killer buyer to be sold on yet again, to Mexico or Canada for meat and contact us immediately.
